In Kochi, the government has directed a compensation of Rs 25,000 to Sojish of Nettoor in response to an order from the state human rights commission. The additional chief secretary of the home department issued this directive, specifying that the compensation should be deducted from the salary of the former SI of Panangad in three equal instalments. Chairman Justice JB Kosi of the commission had mandated this compensation following Sojish's complaint. Sojish, a member of a scheduled caste, was allegedly mistreated by former Panangad SI Vipin AB. The complaint stated that Sojish was taken into custody by a police team led by the former SI without the proper authorization after being admitted to a hospital, leading to Sojish filing a complaint with the commission. Though a probe was conducted and departmental action was taken against the SI resulting in a reprimand, no compensation was initially provided. The government noted that the accused SI had the chance to present a counter-argument before the commission's final decision, but he did not do so. Subsequently, the government directed the payment of Rs 25,000 to Sojish as per the commission's order.
